I’m a product manager on the Database Tools team at Oracle.
It’s my job to help improve and share all the cool free tools we offer for the Oracle Database.
My goal with this blog is to help you learn Oracle’s tech and share anything else I think might be fun or useful to people. Topics can range from technical content, to navigating a tech career, and even just entertaining life stuff. If you want to see something let me know! My main mission is to provide value to people whatever form that ends up taking :)
If you are interested in learning about my story, keep reading!
A long time ago in a suburb far far away, the stork brought me to southern New Jersey in January of 1997. My parents raised me and my younger sister here.
I grew up playing basketball and being a huge video game nerd. In high school I commuted almost an hour each way to Philadelphia where I went to St. Joseph’s Prep: an all boys Jesuit school with a strict dress code.
I moved up to Boston, MA for 4 years where I went to college at Boston College. I graduated with 2 majors in finance and business analytics and a minor in philosophy. After graduating I moved back home to save money as I worked my first job as a financial planning and analysis (FP&A) analyst at an insurance company.
When Covid hit I booked a one way ticket to Austin, TX to ride out the pandemic with my girlfriend at the time.
I immediately fell in love with Austin and was determined to make it my permanent home. I was looking for a career change as well. I began taking coding certifications and doing research with the hopes of breaking into the tech industry.
In January 2021 I got hired by Oracle into their Class Of Program for solution engineers. It was our job to be technical product experts. We would give presentations and answer questions during the sales process along with working on internal initiatives. I was focused on Oracle Database and Middleware.
In March 2022 I was internally recruited into product management on the Database Tools team. As I write this it is February 2023 and I’m coming up on the end of my first year. It’s gone fast and I’ve both learned a lot and realize how much more I still have to learn.
As I get settled into my role, it’s crazy to think about where I am now vs. a couple years ago when I was just a finance major with no background in tech. It’s been an incredible journey so far fueled by endless questions, a lot of self exploration, and the help of mentors and friends.
When I first started to pave this path for myself I relied a lot on the resources and advice of others. That’s why I wanted to start this blog. The same way others have helped me, I hope to also share the things I find helpful as I continue this adventure. Hopefully I can also make it fun along the way :)
